In the future, Ottawa’s history will be divided into two distinct epochs: pre- and post-New Country 94.

True, some were shocked by the demise of BOB-FM. And one suspects Corey Hart will feel its loss in his next royalty cheque.

But I can’t say I was surprised. I knew BOB’s days were numbered ages ago, when the station axed its popular Wigipedia Wednesday segment. It was only a matter of time.

Still, something new to enjoy. Can’t be bad, eh?

Is Beyoncé about to release a surprise album?

(And speaking of surprises, Prince is playing a concert in our basement this evening. Please mind the barricades, people.)

It’s been a year since the Destiny’s Child alumnus’s previous unexpected album, so this time it could be considered expected. Indeed, it will be a great disappointment to all humanity if we have to wait until 2015. Seems to me a surprise, just in time for the holidays, is the least Beyoncé can do for us. Continue reading →

“Canada’s king of creep.”

That banner headline adorns the front page of the “Me” section of today’s paper. The accompanying story is, surprisingly, not about the former host (and co-creator, his lawyers will tell you) of a CBC Radio show. Rather, it’s a profile of an overrated Canadian film director.

Presumably, the page was laid out before mid-week. Few will deny that Canada has since acquired a new king of creep.

This week in London, Kate Bush performed her first concerts in 35 years. It is, not surprisingly, the talk of the UK. I can confirm that shortly, as I will be there  48 hours or so, in time for the final concerts in an ambitious series of theatrical KB presentations. Of course, unless I come into a great deal of during those hours, I will not be attending.

Still, being there is half the battle. Which reminds me, I may not have anything new for you good people until late September, at which point I hope to once again revamp this little blog to focus a more on deserving local artists and less on tangential rants.
